A science led approach

At Shelf Life, our mission is simple: help people waste less, save more, and make small changes that add up to a big impact. But we knew that if we wanted to truly tackle household food waste, we needed more than just a great idea, we needed evidence.

That’s why we partnered with the University of Nottingham, a top UK university with world-leading research in food science and innovation. 

Their team conducted independent lab testing using advanced equipment to measure how effectively Shelf Life’s fridge filter absorbs ethylene gas - the natural compound that causes fruit and vegetables to spoil.

We can confirm that our filter’s contain minerals that are excellent for absorbing ethylene gas and significantly reducing concentration levels, which helps to slow down the spoilage process and keep fresh produce lasting longer.
